Muslim Women’s Coalition files lawsuit against Megans Archwell, cutting funding for support of Palestine

The Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition (MMWC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 by Palestinian-American activist Janeran Najab.

The organization has been working to empower Muslim women and girls through education leadership and wellness programs.

In April 2025, the MMWC faced legal battles with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archie Foundation, which accused them of funding the MMWC due to a blog post by Najab. The post, which described Israel as an apartheid state, was viewed as divisive and inflammatory.

In response, the foundation accused Najab of using the slogan “Palestine will be free” to demand human rights for Palestinians. The MMWC later removed the coalition from its network, leaving its programs for Afghan refugee women in jeopardy. Najab responded with a letter to Archie Ule, accusing her of choosing PR over principle. The MMWC filed a lawsuit against Archule in a Wisconsin court, alleging breach of contract defamation and discrimination.

The lawsuit claimed that the foundation disproportionately targeted a Muslim woman of color for her political views while continuing to fund other organizations with less scrutiny. The lawsuit demanded reinstatement of funding and a public apology from Meghan Markle herself. Critics argue that Megan’s handling of the MMWC situation reveals a selective approach to activism, prioritizing optics over substance.

The controversy has also raised questions about Archel’s vetting process, as the foundation was unaware of Najib’s blog post until the broadcasters’ inquiry. This admission has led to criticism that Archule failed to conduct due diligence before partnering with the MMWC and overreacted when faced with public scrutiny.

In conclusion, the MMWC faced legal battles with high-profile charitable foundations like Archie Foundation and Meghan Markle, who were accused of bias and racial bias.
